Exceptionally high monsoon rainfall in Kerala, 2018

Torrential rain in South West India has led to widespread flooding – we are currently working on an analysis which will be available at the end of September.

Over 324 people have reportedly been killed as a result of the intense rainfall. We are looking at the station data and estimating suitability of available models. This will determine whether we will be able to assess the role of climate change in this event in a rapid assessment, do a quick-look or whether it will be analysed in a comprehensive study within the next year.
